City of St. Paul - Como Harbor
CPMI provided Agency Construction Management Services for the $20M reinvention of Como’s seal and sea lion exhibit. With the new exhibit, the public will be much closer to the animals; including underwater viewing areas and training stations. The exhibit also includes deeper pools for diving, a natural substrate, rocky outcroppings, and trees to provide shade. This new 64,500-square-foot habitat includes a heated saltwater environment that will resemble their natural habitat and minimize the eye and coat irritation that can be caused by freshwater. The animals can stay in the habitat all year round as the salt water will not freeze. This allows for easy underwater transfers from one area to the next. Other upgrades include a new restroom building restaurant, view pavilion and filtration building. The view pavilion offers elevated viewing platforms and underwater viewing windows. Como Harbor is the most recent improvement through public/private partnership between Como Friends, the City of St. Paul and the MN State Legislature.
Due to the pandemic the exhibit is now scheduled to pen to the public in early 2021
